Mario Rodolfo CARRARA was born on 5 November 1926 in Nembro, in the province of Bergamo, Italy.
From 1943, he studied at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts in Milan.
He arrived in Paris in 1948, leaving in 1999 to move to Bordeaux.
From the late 1960s through to the 1990s, he mainly took part in group exhibitions, before holding solo exhibitions from the 2000s onwards.
His paintings – figurative at first, then abstract from the 1970s onwards, and later a mixture of both – draw in particular on Primitive Art, the Italian Primitives, and the precursors of abstraction, expressing a meditative quest for the origins of art.
