An architect, designer and artist, Nanda Vigo occupies a unique place in the post-war Italian avant-garde. Close to the circles of kinetic art and the ZERO movement, from the 1960s onwards she developed a body of work based on the interactions between light, space and matter, transforming the light fitting into a true instrument of perception.
This lamp perfectly illustrates this approach. Reduced to a basic geometric construction, it combines two tubular brass volumes forming a broken line of remarkable purity. The light source, integrated into the structure, recedes into the background in favour of the luminous effect itself, creating a discreet yet strongly architectural presence.
The polished brass reflects the light and the surroundings, transforming the object into a composition that shifts depending on the viewer’s perspective. This economy of means, combined with great formal rigour, constitutes one of the major characteristics of the most advanced Italian design of the 1970s.
At the crossroads of minimalism and radical design, this lamp bears witness to research into light as a creative material. Its timeless design and sculptural quality make it a remarkable example of Italian lighting design from the second half of the 20th century.
