Description
Gramigna Pair of lamps Brass Date of creation: circa 1970 An Italian designer active during the 1970s, Gramigna developed a formal language characterised by the geometric simplicity of his forms and a refined use of materials. His creations are part of the great tradition of post-war Italian design, where the purity of lines is combined with a particular focus on the quality of light. This pair of lamps perfectly illustrates this quest for balance between functionality and architectural composition. Each lamp combines a cylindrical shade with a polished brass structure comprising a vertical screen and a tubular base. The juxtaposition of these basic forms creates a subtle interplay between solid and void, light and reflection. The brass, whose surface captures and reflects the surroundings, harmonises beautifully with the soft, diffused glow of the fabric shade. This contrast between the metallic material and the subdued light gives the whole a presence that is both understated and sophisticated. With their timeless elegance and remarkable formal balance, these lamps bear witness to the excellence of Italian design in the 1970s, a period during which lighting fixtures became true elements of interior architecture.
