Description
Charlotte Perriand/Atelier Jean Prouvé "Le Mans" 3-door sideboard Date of creation: 1954 Provenance: "Le Courboulay" building, Le Mans A rare set of original joinery from the building known as "Le Courboulay", designed by the architect Jean Le Couteur in the city of Le Mans. These pieces are from the interior design carried out in 1954 by Charlotte Perriand, with joinery crafted by the Ateliers Jean Prouvé. Originally integrated into the building structure, the door and window frames were carefully salvaged and then refitted onto a cabinet by a cabinetmaker to restore them to their function as freestanding furniture. This sideboard bears witness to a significant moment in post-war French architecture and design, at the crossroads of the work of Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé and Jean Le Couteur. It retains the graphic strength, structural simplicity and functional ingenuity characteristic of the great modern interiors of the 1950s. A rare piece with a remarkable provenance, intended for collectors, interior designers, institutions or enthusiasts of historic furniture.
