A rare and authentic example of the iconic Ulmer Stool, coming directly from the family collection of Otl Aicher in Rotis. This piece was produced at the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm (HfG Ulm), the influential design school founded in the post-war period and closely associated with Aicher’s work and teaching.
Otl Aicher (1922–1991) is one of the most important figures in post-war German design. As co-founder and driving force behind the HfG Ulm, he helped define a new design culture based on clarity, rational structure and democratic values. Internationally, he is best known for creating the revolutionary visual identity for the 1972 Munich Olympic Games, as well as corporate identities for Lufthansa, ZDF, major banks and public institutions. His work remains a cornerstone of modern visual communication.
This stool is not only a major icon of Ulm design thinking, but also holds exceptional historical significance due to its direct provenance from Aicher’s personal environment.
