Description

PH 4/4 pendant lamp
Special nickel-plated version
Lacquered metal and nickel-plated metal
Designed for Louis Poulsen
Date of creation: early 1930s
Condition: in working order at the time of cataloguing, beautiful original patina, slight wear consistent with age and use, remarkably well-preserved for a piece from this period.
An exceptional PH 4/4 pendant light designed by Poul Henningsen for Louis Poulsen in the early 1930s. This rare model is distinguished by its fully nickel-plated upper shaft, a finish produced only to special order and charged as an extra at the time.
Developed from the famous reflector system designed by Henningsen, the PH 4/4 model diffuses a soft and perfectly controlled light, without direct glare. This pursuit of absolute visual comfort constitutes one of Poul Henningsen’s major contributions to the history of modern design.
Early examples are among the most sought-after luminaires from Louis Poulsen’s historical production. The special nickel-plated versions remain particularly rare on the market and are now highly sought after by collectors of Scandinavian design.
