Trained in the arts in Brussels, where his encounter with the critic Pierre Sterckx proved decisive, he truly cut his teeth in a bodywork workshop, bending and shaping sheet metal on a daily basis. It was this experience that enabled him to master techniques and materials, and to hone his eye for the fine, undulating lines that would become his signature. In 1995, his discovery of carbon fibre opened up new horizons: he created the C06 chair, then the lightest in the world, which was immediately acquired by major international museum collections. His pieces are regularly exhibited by design galleries in Europe and the United States, and offered at auction. Working on limited editions from his Brussels studio, Quadens creates in close collaboration with master craftsmen, making each piece as much an object of craftsmanship as of formal innovation. Crafted in polished stainless steel, the Stairway to Heaven illustrates Quadens’ ability to transform the most ordinary function into an object of contemplation. Its precisely contoured shelves seem to defy gravity, suspended in a silent tension between structure and lightness.
