Self-taught, Pol Quadens single-handedly embodies the uniqueness of contemporary Belgian design. Trained in the arts in Brussels, where his encounter with the critic Pierre Sterckx proved decisive, he truly cut his teeth in a bodywork workshop, bending and shaping sheet metal on a daily basis. It was this experience that enabled him to master techniques and materials, and to hone his eye for the fine, undulating lines that would become his signature. In 1995, his discovery of carbon fibre opened up new horizons: he created the C06 chair, then the lightest in the world, which was immediately acquired by major international museum collections. His pieces are regularly exhibited by design galleries in Europe and the United States, and featured in auction houses. Working on limited editions from his Brussels studio, Quadens creates in close collaboration with master craftsmen, making each piece as much a testament to craftsmanship as it is to formal innovation.
The Pebble coffee table combines polished stainless steel with patinated steel, creating a subtle dialogue between shine and mattness, between industrial rigour and organic softness. Its shape evokes a pebble smoothed by water — a serene, almost natural geometry that contrasts with the millimetre-precise execution. Limited to 8 + 4 pieces, it bears witness to the high standards of craftsmanship that characterise every creation from the Quadens workshop.
