Description
Jacques Moniquet Lamp Silver-plated metal Date of creation: circa 1975 H52 cm A French sculptor, designer and interior decorator, Jacques Moniquet developed a distinctive body of work from the 1960s onwards, situated at the crossroads of the decorative arts and sculpture. His creations are distinguished by a sensual treatment of materials and a constant quest for movement, placing his work within the major formal experiments of the 1970s. This lamp-sculpture is a remarkable example of this approach. The cylindrical structure, with its great geometric simplicity, appears to emerge from a sculpted base with fluid, organic contours. The treatment of the metal evokes molten material frozen in mid-motion, creating a subtle contrast between architectural stability and plastic dynamism. The polished silver surface amplifies the effects of light and reflection, transforming the object into a true sculptural presence. The lighting function integrates naturally into the composition, without ever detracting from the sculptural power of the whole. Through this work, Jacques Moniquet affirms a conception of the light fixture in which light becomes a constituent element of the sculpture. The creations from this period are among the most representative of his work and bear witness to the interest in the 1970s in integrating sculpture into the domestic space. Through the quality of its design, the elegance of its lines and its balance between function and visual expression, this lamp-sculpture perfectly captures the spirit of 1970s French design.
