Description
Asta Strömberg
Strömbergshyttan glass vase with ring-shaped air bubbles
Clear glass and smoked glass.
Signed "Strömberg B 942"
H27.5 cm
Signed vase — the "Strömberg B 942" signature engraved on the glass guarantees its authenticity — this vase in clear and smoked glass from Strömbergshyttan is a first-rate collector’s item. Its ring-shaped trapped air bubbles are a technical feat characteristic of the craftsmanship of Swedish glassmaking in Smaland: these controlled inclusions, trapping light within the mass of glass, create a visual effect of depth and movement of rare beauty. Strömbergshyttan, active from 1933 to 1979, is one of the most internationally collected Swedish glassworks. The signature on this piece is a guarantee of absolute authenticity and value.
Asta Strömberg & Strömbergshyttan
Asta Strömberg (1896–1975) was one of the most important designers at Strömbergshyttan, founded by her husband Gerda Strömberg in Småland, Sweden, in 1933. The company, which operated until 1979, produced glassware of remarkable artistic and technical quality, now highly prized by collectors of Nordic glass. Pieces bearing the Strömbergshyttan mark are held in the collections of the Nationalmuseum in Stockholm and the Röhsska Museum in Gothenburg.
