Description
Bob Verhelst for Martin Margiela Pair of wall panels Vacuum-formed plastic on wood Edition: Hermès/Margiela fashion show in Antwerp Date of creation: 2017 H210 W120 D8 cm Pieces from the same series are featured in the exhibition at the Musée des Arts décoratifs in Paris. In 2017, Hermès welcomed 240 guests to Antwerp, including journalists from around the world, with Martin Margiela behind the scenes at the helm of the event. The guests arrived at Antwerp Central Station before being taken to the Saint-Félix depot, a former warehouse now converted into a municipal archive. Passing through a maze of white-walled corridors, they reached a vast reception hall where models dressed in black and flesh-coloured leotards interpreted Margiela’s silhouettes for Hermès as well as for his own house — a fashion show imagined, brought to life through words and gestures. The evening concluded with a banquet served by over 100 people dressed in black, around a long table set up along the depot’s corridor. Bob Verhelst designed the exhibition ‘Margiela, the Hermès Years”, presented in 2017 by MoMu (Antwerp Fashion Museum) and also hosted by the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, confirming his essential role in bringing the Margiela universe to life.
