Studio Binocle (Lorenzo Bini) Table from the Six Tableaux series Monolithic marble, natural stone bases Limited edition Year of creation: 2019 First presented at Studio Binocle’s premises in Milan during Milan Design Week 2019, as part of a solo exhibition accompanied by a culinary installation designed by Casalinghe di Tokyo. Six Tableaux is a series of six marble tables whose tops feature irregular contours created by tracing and reproducing details or fragments of works by six different contemporary artists. Each piece thus constitutes a tribute to the artist from whom it borrows its form, transforming a two-dimensional motif into a functional three-dimensional object. With Six Tableaux, Lorenzo Bini offers a reflection on the very notion of authorship and on the mechanisms of creation in contemporary design. Devoid of conventional geometry, these tables emphasise the tactile presence of the material and the expressiveness of their free-form contours. Somewhere between functional sculpture and conceptual manifesto, they are part of the revival of Italian collectible furniture in the early 21st century.
