Isac Elam Kaid K2301 Fragmenta Side table White onyx Limited edition of 20 pieces + 2 artist’s proofs Year of creation: 2021 H45 W33 D30 cm Isac Elam Kaid is an artist and designer based in Vancouver, creating unique sculptural objects. Born in 1991, he studied Design/One and set up a studio to design private and commercial spaces. He soon began designing objects within the spaces themselves, and started taking private commissions in early 2019. His work is characterised by unconventional beauty and bold form. Often inspired by raw materials and traditional craft techniques, he strives to create objects of imperfect beauty, which demand attention and express their material in the most direct way possible. His designs are handcrafted in his studio. Due to the nature of the materials he works with, each piece is unique. Created as part of the Transhumances II residency at Galerie Philia, this work was conceived by exploring fragments of stone discarded in quarries and workshops across Tuscany. The MATERIAL table explores the balance between severity and lightness, both in its material and its composition. The design allows light to filter through the shards of onyx, creating a sense of fragility and delicate balance.
