Description
Paolo Pallucco
No. 24
Chair
Lacquered wood
Limited edition of 4 pieces
Date of creation: circa 1980
Produced by Pallucco in an extremely limited series, the Chair No. 24 reflects the experimental spirit that characterised Italian design in the 1980s. During this period, the manufacturer established itself as a major player in avant-garde design by developing projects in which furniture became a true field of artistic exploration.
The composition is based on the interpenetration of elementary geometric volumes, whose apparent balance defies the traditional conventions of seating. The addition of a sloping frame running through the structure transforms the functional object into an autonomous architectural construction, deliberately blurring the boundary between sculpture and furniture.
Through its formal radicalism, Chair No. 24 follows on from the research conducted by postmodern Italian design into the deconstruction of classical typologies. Function remains present, but becomes a pretext for reflection on form, space and perception.
Produced in a limited run of just four pieces, this chair is a rare example of the experiments produced by Pallucco during a decade that profoundly renewed the language of contemporary design. Its exclusivity and strong sculptural presence make it a piece particularly sought after today by collectors of radical Italian design.
