Description
Charlotte Perriand Pair of wall lights Model CP1 black Black lacquered metal Steph Simon edition, Paris Date of creation: 1960 H12.5 W16 D6 cm This light fitting requires an E14 bulb. A leading figure of the modernist movement, Charlotte Perriand profoundly transformed the approach to furniture and lighting in the 20th century by placing functionality at the heart of design. Her work, characterised by a constant quest for structural simplicity and practical efficiency, remains one of the key references in French design today. Designed in the early 1960s, the CP1 wall light is one of the most iconic pieces in her repertoire. Reduced to the essentials, its geometric form allows the light to be directed via its movable metal shade, providing both direct and indirect lighting. This economy of means, combined with remarkable craftsmanship, perfectly illustrates the philosophy of Charlotte Perriand, for whom beauty arises from function. These examples were produced by Steph Simon, a Parisian gallery and publisher that became one of the leading figures in post-war French design. From the 1950s onwards, Steph Simon promoted the works of Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouvé and Serge Mouille, playing a key role in the emergence of some of the most iconic works of French modernism. Thanks to the purity of their design, their exemplary functionality and the quality of their provenance, these wall lights are among Charlotte Perriand’s most sought-after creations. The vintage pieces produced by Steph Simon remain particularly prized by collectors for their authenticity and historical significance.
