Description
H. Fillekes (1925–2004) "Magneto" floor lamp Lacquered metal, steel and adjustable magnetic system Date of creation: 1950s H140 W130 D55 cm A true icon of post-war Dutch design, the Magneto lamp elegantly illustrates the fusion of technical innovation, functionality and formal purity that characterises H. Fillekes’ creations for Artiforte. Designed in the 1950s for Artiforte, the Magneto model is one of the most iconic creations by Dutch designer H. Fillekes. Its name derives from the ingenious magnetic system that allows the light diffuser to be attached and freely adjusted on its frame, offering great flexibility of use whilst maintaining remarkable visual simplicity. The composition is based on a slender metal structure with taut lines, characteristic of post-war Dutch modernism. The balance between visual lightness and functional efficiency reflects the rationalist approach developed by Artiforte, a major publisher of 20th-century European design. The adjustable diffuser, a true technical feat for its time, gives the luminaire an innovative interactive dimension. This blend of innovation and elegance has helped make the Magneto model one of the most sought-after luminaires in Artiforte’s range. Through this creation, H. Fillekes demonstrates his ability to integrate technical advances into a form of remarkable simplicity. More than seventy years after its design, the model retains its modernity intact and remains an essential testament to Dutch design of the 1950s.
