H87 W150 D 50 cm
With its spectacular dimensions (W150 cm), this Lachaise armchair in fibreglass, steel and wood is one of the most imposing and sculptural pieces in Eames’s oeuvre. Its name pays homage to the sculptor Gaston Lachaise, whose voluptuous female figures inspired the generous curves of this chair. Reissued by Vitra in 2002 — a Swiss company with a long-standing association with the Eameses — it benefits from the high standard of craftsmanship characteristic of this world-renowned manufacturer. The Eames’ creations feature in the permanent collections of MoMA in New York, the Vitra Design Museum and the Design Museum in London. A first-rate investment in heritage.
Charles Eames (1907–1978)
Together with his wife Ray (1912–1988), Charles Eames is the creator of the most collected and studied works of 20th-century American design in the world. Their revolutionary contributions to furniture design — the DAR chair, the Eames Lounge Chair, the DSW chair — redefined the possibilities of industrial materials (fibreglass, moulded plywood, aluminium) in contemporary furniture. Their works feature in the collections of all the major international design museums, including the MoMA in New York and the Vitra Design Museum.
