Rosa Cortiella Tribute I Bedside table Ceramic, glass Date created: 2023 For Rosa Cortiella, creating this piece was a real challenge. It was whilst observing Maria Pergay’s ‘Rare dining table’ that she felt a connection with the artist. The holes and shadows it cast reminded her of one of her own works, “The Weight of Absence”, which she reinterpreted as a tribute. Rosa’s original work, made from refractory clay and painted with acrylic, differed considerably from Maria Pergay’s characteristic metallic aesthetic. In this new interpretation, Cortiella transforms the painted ceramic into coloured porcelain, creating two sturdy, perforated concentric cylinders that evoke metal. It is the absence of material that transforms this piece into a sculptural table with a glass top.
