Victor Emanuel Lindstrand, known as Vicke, is regarded as a pioneer of Swedish glass art. In 1928, he joined Orrefors, where he revolutionised certain techniques in enamelled and engraved glass, before inventing, with Edvin Öhrström, the so-called Ariel technique, which involved embedding air bubbles in coloured glass to create unique depth effects. In 1950, he joined Kosta Glasbruk as artistic director, a position he held until 1973, establishing himself as the factory’s leading designer and lending his name to numerous designs that have since become classics. It was during this period that he began to incorporate more and more colour into his creations, resulting in iconic designs.
This green-tinted glass vase belongs to this prolific period of the Kosta years. The ‘LH’ prefix in the signature corresponds to Lindstrand’s initials at Kosta, used for pieces designed under his artistic direction — a workshop mark that precisely situates the piece within the chronology of his work. The deep, luminous green of the blown glass captures and diffuses light with the intensity characteristic of Scandinavian crystal: a colour that is never uniform, always marked by the variations of the mouth-blown process.
