Description
Denise Pietra Corbara (wife of Agostini) Pair of lamps Bronze Date of creation: c. 1960 H35 cm A French sculptor and interior designer active in the mid-20th century, Denise Pietra Corbara worked closely with her husband, the metalworker and artist Félix Agostini, better known as Agostini. Her work is part of the post-war revival of the decorative arts, characterised by a taste for fine materials and a sculptural approach to furniture and objets d’art. The creations emerging from this world bear witness to a constant quest for elegance and a subtle dialogue between artistic craftsmanship and decorative design. This pair of bronze lamps illustrates the sculptural sensibility characteristic of Denise Pietra Corbara’s creations. Made around 1960, they are distinguished by the quality of their casting and the expressive richness of the bronze, the material of choice for post-war French decorative arts. Straddling the boundary between sculpture and functional object, these lamps demonstrate a refined approach to lighting, where light becomes the natural extension of a sculptural work. Their elegant and timeless presence is fully in keeping with the decorative aesthetic of the 1950s and 1960s, which is now particularly sought after by collectors.
