Inger Persson was just twenty-two years old when she joined Rörstrand in 1959, during the company’s heyday, when its porcelain designs were enjoying remarkable success abroad. There she worked alongside a team of already legendary designers, including Carl-Harry Stålhane, Marianne Westman and Hertha Bengtsson. Trained at Konstfack University in Stockholm, her professional career began immediately after completing her studies when Rörstrand’s director, Fredrik Wehtje, recruited her straight after her final-year exhibition. She is one of the most famous representatives of 20th-century Swedish ceramic design and is featured in the collections of the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
Returning to Rörstrand in 1981, where she remained until 1996, Inger Persson continued her work with a lively and youthful style. Among the best-known series from this period are the ‘Balloon vases’, slightly asymmetrical vases with matt glazes in bright colours, which are now highly sought after by collectors.
