Description
Masahiro Wadayama (born 1985, based in Wakayama, Japan) Set of 2 vases Turquoise glazed ceramic H15.5 W6.5 D6.5 cm H13.5 W7.5 D7.5 cm Masahiro Wadayama is renowned for ceramics that combine vibrant colours, elegant forms and a masterful command of slip glazes. An award-winning ceramist based in Wakayama, he works with Japanese porcelain—which is denser and less porous than traditional earthenware—and selects vibrant colours, including Japanese indigo blue, to illuminate each surface. Fascinated by the unpredictability of molten glazes, he channels his artistic vision into each piece to reveal the diversity and beauty of ceramics. These two turquoise vases are a striking demonstration of this. The colour, dense and deep, oscillating between sea blue and jade green, is never uniform: it concentrates in the hollows, lightens on the edges, and in places reveals the whiteness of the underlying porcelain. It is the glaze itself that draws, shapes and tells the story. The two pieces, slightly different in their proportions, engage in a dialogue: the same colour, the same mastery of the material, two distinct silhouettes that respond to one another like variations on a single gesture. Wadayama designs his pieces to be both works of art in their own right and everyday objects.
