Description
Inessa Hansch (1970) Seguin Low-back bench Pre-formed, triple-folded formwork panel, melamine resin Seguin Collection Limited edition of 30 pieces. Produced in an edition of 6+2 Date of creation: 2010 H86 W150 D60 cm Inessa Hansch’s Seguin collection was designed for the temporary garden project on Seguin Island in Boulogne-Billancourt. Inspired by Gerrit Rietveld’s rustic 1940s garden furniture, Inessa has designed a range of outdoor furniture made from weather-resistant wooden panels. The furniture evokes the minimalist style of Donald Judd, the simplicity of Enzo Mari’s self-produced furniture, and the understated elegance of the church benches designed by the Dutch Benedictine monk Dom Hans Van der Laan. Inessa Hansch A graduate of the Institut Supérieur d’Architecture Saint-Luc in Brussels, Inessa Hansch founded her practice in Paris in 2007. A professor at the Harvard Graduate School of Design since 2014, she leads a studio dedicated to the development of public spaces, which she regards as a lever for structuring the built environment. Her practice operates on various scales, with projects ranging from furniture and buildings to urban planning. Adopting a unique approach, she explores the capacity of any built form to awaken an awareness of space. Collaborating frequently with landscape architects from the very outset of projects, Hansch seeks to anchor each built form within its environment to reveal the site’s specific character and true potential. Her approach to the structuring of space is the subject of a long-standing artistic collaboration with the painter Susanne Kühn, with whom she has created numerous three-dimensional works.
