Produced by B&B Italia
Date of creation: 1960s

Born of one of the most fruitful collaborations in Italian design, this piece bears the signature of Afra Bianchin (1937–2011) and Tobia Scarpa (born 1935), a couple both in life and in the studio, who trained together at the Università Iuav di Venezia. Tobia, son of the great architect Carlo Scarpa, and Afra worked for the most discerning manufacturers such as B&B Italia, Cassina, Knoll and Flos, establishing themselves as leading figures in post-war Italian furniture design.
Designed in 1966 for B&B Italia, the Coronado is their most iconic creation. Its steel frame, cold-moulded polyurethane foam padding and ingenious system of harmonic steel strips integrated into the backrest give it its exceptional support. Both classic and resolutely modern, it is now recognised as a first-rate collector’s item, a lasting testament to the genius of a visionary duo.
