Description
Naomi Okuya (1930–2005)
Silkscreen print
Signed and numbered 54/75
Date of creation: 1974
This rare silkscreen print by Naomi Okuya (1930–2005) bears witness to a particularly creative period in the Japanese artist’s career during her years in Paris. Based in Paris from 1965 to 1982, Okuya developed a distinctive visual language in which geometric abstraction meets the aesthetics of optical and kinetic art.
Through the apparent simplicity of its forms, this composition reveals a remarkable interplay of balance, rhythm and colour. The solid blocks of black, red and orange interact with an almost architectural rigour, creating a work that is at once powerful, elegant and timeless.
Having exhibited at the Paris Biennale since 1965, Naomi Okuya remains a relatively unknown figure on the international art scene, with her works rarely appearing on the European market.
An iconic piece from the 1970s, ideal for complementing the worlds of Pierre Paulin, Verner Panton, Joe Colombo or even radical Italian design.
