The creation of ‘Mediterranean Bits Wind’ is a complex exercise in composition, as the very movement of the piece alters its final appearance. What seems balanced and beautiful one moment can be completely thrown off balance the next. Yet it is precisely this ephemeral nature that makes the work so captivating. The ceramic breaks free from its usual perception of solidity to become lighter, almost as if suspended. We have not always been what we are. Nor will we always be what we were. This work is a defence of movement against the absolute. A defence of lightness, of process, of transformation. It questions the pressure to know exactly what to be and what to do, the idea of a fixed future, the weight of predetermined goals and established forms. Ultimately, building oneself means trusting in the balance between the wind — that which we cannot control — and matter — that which we can shape —, which will eventually place us where we are meant to be.
