Description
Jean Prouvé (1901–1984) Double-sided architectural façade panel, Saint-Égrève Aluminium Date of creation: 1960 H 260 × W 120 × D 8 cm Double-sided aluminium architectural façade panel. Commissioned for the Studal building, Saint-Égrève. 1960. H 260 × W 120 × D 8 cm. A major work in the architectural oeuvre of Jean Prouvé (1901–1984), this large-format (260 × 120 cm) double-sided façade panel bears witness to Prouvé’s exceptional mastery in the use of aluminium. Larger than Lot 44, it develops the same design language on a grander scale: the undulations in the sheet metal, which provide maximum structural rigidity, create a fascinating interplay of graphic and sculptural elements on the surface. An architectural element of this calibre, originating directly from the Studal complex in Saint-Égrève, is a major acquisition for any collector of 20th-century design and architecture.
