Description
Christophe Gevers (1928–2007) A series of six graphic panels with geometric designs Veneered wood and Formica Created circa 1976–1978 4 panels: H240 W115 cm 2 panels / doors: H240 W120 cm A set of six large panels with geometric compositions, comprising four decorative panels and two panels designed as door panels. Created by Christophe Gevers for the fit-out of the staff restaurant/cafeteria at Société Générale de Banque, Rue Montagne du Parc, Brussels. A leading figure in Belgian design and interior architecture in the second half of the 20th century, Christophe Gevers developed a particularly personal approach to furniture and interior design, prioritising structural simplicity, materiality and a great economy of means. This significant set of six panels originates from the interior design project carried out by Gevers for the dining areas of the Société Générale de Banque on Montagne du Parc in Brussels during the second half of the 1970s. Their abstract design, built up from large geometric surfaces and contrasts in materials, illustrates how Gevers viewed furniture, graphic design and interior architecture as the different components of a single environment. Provenance: Société Générale de Banque, Montagne du Parc, Brussels. Cornette de Saint Cyr auction, Brussels, June 2015. Documentation: period photograph showing the panels in situ in their original setting.
