Description
Paolo Pallucco
No. 24
Chair
Lacquered wood
Limited edition of 4 pieces
Date of creation: circa 1980
Produced by Pallucco in an extremely limited run, the No. 24 Chair embodies the experimental spirit that characterised Italian design in the 1980s. During this period, the manufacturer established itself as one of the leading players in avant-garde design by developing projects in which furniture became a true field of artistic exploration.
The design is based on the interplay of basic geometric volumes, whose apparent balance defies the traditional conventions of seating. The addition of a sloping frame running through the structure transforms the functional object into an autonomous architectural construction, deliberately blurring the boundary between sculpture and furniture.
Through its formal radicalism, Chair No. 24 follows on from the research carried out by postmodern Italian design into the deconstruction of classical typologies. Function remains present, but becomes a pretext for reflection on form, space and perception.
Produced in a run of just four, this piece stands as a rare example of the experiments produced by Pallucco during a decade that profoundly renewed the language of contemporary design. Its exclusive nature and strong sculptural presence make it a work that is now particularly sought after by collectors of radical Italian design.
