ARNE JACOBSEN (1902–1971) ‘Ant’ – model 3100 Pair of chairs Pair of tripod chairs with moulded plywood shells and black-stained wood veneer, resting on three tapered steel-tube legs. Model designed in 1952 Produced by Fritz Hansen, Denmark, 1953. Original label under one of the seats bearing the inscription ‘FH Danmark – model 3100’, serial number 2262 and date 53. Shows signs of wear, patina and age, notably oxidation on the legs. Launched in the early 1950s, the Ant (Myren) chair is one of the iconic designs of Arne Jacobsen and post-war Scandinavian design. Its one-piece moulded plywood shell, which is particularly slender where the seat meets the backrest, gives it its characteristic silhouette. The original version of the Model 3100 stood on just three legs, before a four-legged variant was subsequently developed.
