In good original vintage condition. The fabric shows slight signs of wear. The painted metal frame has visible paint chips, scratches and age-related wear, which is consistent with its history as a working prototype. Please refer to the photographs for further details.
A rare prototype of the Pillow Chair by the Dutch design duo Bert van der Grift and Dennis van der Burch, known collectively as Bert & Dennis.
The design reduces the traditional lounge chair to two generously proportioned cushions, which appear to balance on a slender, white-painted metal frame. The contrast between the soft, oversized upholstery and the exposed geometric frame gives the chair its playful and instantly recognisable character. Despite its informal appearance, the seat and backrest are carefully positioned to provide a comfortable and relaxing sitting position.
This prototype is one of Bert & Dennis’s earliest experimental works. The duo began presenting designs and prototypes in 2006, before officially founding their studio in 2008. Their work is characterised by functional simplicity, understated forms and a subtle sense of humour. The armchair’s construction also reflects Dennis van me Burch’s solid expertise in upholstering major 20th-century design pieces.
Made from a bright red fabric with a white-painted metal frame. Small original Bert & Dennis labels are attached to both cushions.
