Description
Luigi Colani Orbis Coffee table COR edition Date of design: c. 1960 H35 W80 D81 cm Orbis coffee table. COR edition (Germany), circa 1960. H 35 × W 80 × D 81 cm. Luigi Colani (Berlin, 1928 – Karlsruhe, 2019) was one of the most iconoclastic and visionary designers of the 20th century. Trained at the Sorbonne and the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris, he developed, from the 1950s onwards, a radically organic and biomorphic formal vocabulary — the forms of nature, bodies and flows — which he applied to the automotive industry, aeronautics, furniture and everyday objects. The Orbis table for COR exemplifies this aesthetic: soft curves, fluid volumes and a complete rejection of right angles. His works feature in the collections of the Vitra Design Museum. A collector’s item for enthusiasts of 1960s organic design.
