MARCEL GASCOIN (1907–1986) Pair of bedside tables Oak France, circa 1950 H40 W30 D25 cm Compact and functional in form, each piece features a simple construction with geometric lines, characteristic of Marcel Gascoin’s explorations into rational furniture designed for post-war interiors. From the late 1940s onwards, Gascoin developed furniture in which economy of materials, quality of cabinetmaking and functionality were closely intertwined. Oak became one of his favourite materials, particularly for the furniture produced by ARHEC. A similar oak bedside table attributed to Marcel Gascoin, featuring a single drawer and measuring 46 × 40 × 24 cm, was notably offered at auction with an estimate of €400–600 per item. Another auction records an ARHEC bedside table in solid waxed oak measuring 47.5 × 40 × 25 cm.
