Jordi Ribaudí The Fastest Vegan Leather Chair Armchair Vegan leather Date of creation: 2023 H172 W138 D124 cm The armchair is a reflection on the contrasting concepts of form/appearance and object/symbol. It reveals the contradictions between how we want to appear and who we really are. The designer incorporates these reflections into his working method; ideas that are reflected in the pieces of furniture he creates, usually by hand, using vegetable-tanned animal leather. However, at the request of Design Miami, he took up the challenge of incorporating ‘vegan’ leather and produced a material derived from flax; a material that embodies sustainability, straddling the line between reality and artifice. Jordi Ribaudí In 1996, he founded Estudi Ribaudí, specialising in product, furniture and lighting design. As an interior designer, he also collaborates with major fashion brands. In 2005, he began restoring a 19th-century tannery, where he set up his studio, which in turn became a space for exhibiting and promoting the former industrial district of Igualada. Since 2009, he has been leading the REC.0 project, an innovative initiative aimed at showcasing architectural heritage through the temporary installation of pop-up shops in former tanneries. This project enabled him to forge links with local tanners, discover their craftsmanship and explore the possibilities offered by the material. He then began to explore and experiment with leather. Finally, in 2015, he launched the TORU project, a blend of ideas and sensations transformed into objects.
