Slight surface wear consistent with its age. The glaze is well preserved. An exceptional and rare French Art Deco stoneware vase by Gilbert Méténier, globular in shape, adorned with four elongated vertical points rising elegantly from the shoulder. It is covered in magnificent, flowing glazes in warm shades of chestnut, copper, turquoise and blue, creating the rich iridescent and crystalline effects characteristic of the famous Grès d’Art Méténier produced in Gannat. The highly sculptural silhouette and organic form reflect the unique artistic language developed by Gilbert Méténier during the interwar period, combining Art Nouveau inspiration with the modernist spirit of Art Deco. These architectural forms are among the most sought-after pieces from the Gannat workshop and are rarely found on the market. Méténier’s stoneware pieces are particularly prized because the original moulds were destroyed in 1940, guaranteeing the authenticity and rarity of the surviving examples.
