Fibreglass
FG Design edition
Year of creation: 1968
H37 W170 D65 cm
A representative of the Space Age movement that shaped European design in the 1960s, this fibreglass bench by Wolfgang Feierbach features a low, enveloping organic silhouette — its single-piece moulded form, hollowed out at the centre to accommodate two seats, evokes the flying saucers and space capsules that fuelled the collective imagination of the era. Fibreglass, the miracle material of the 1960s, allows for shapes here that would be impossible to achieve in wood or metal. Feierbach’s pieces for FG Design are rare on the French and international markets. A fine example of experimental German design from the 1960s.
Wolfgang Feierbach
A German designer active in the 1960s and 1970s, Wolfgang Feierbach was one of the leading figures in experimental German design of that period, a contemporary of the creative effervescence that characterised West Germany in the years following its reconstruction. His fibreglass pieces for FG design are part of the European plastic design movement, marked by the influence of Verner Panton, Pierre Paulin and Joe Colombo.
