Biography: Dominique POUCHAIN lives and works in Dieulefit, where he was born in 1956. His father was a ceramist and painter, and his mother an interior designer; it was in their studio that he began his apprenticeship at the age of 17. He began creating his first animal sculptures around 1977. The oxide he uses is one of the distinctive features of his work, a trademark; his pieces are a deep, textured matt black that absorbs light. In 1985, he exhibited his works at the Salon des Ateliers d’Arts in Paris; the exhibition was a success, and he was approached by galleries.
