Description
Northern Sweden Large, dismantlable country-style table Solid pine Late 18th century H78 L208 W80 cm Significant signs of age, marks, cracks and irregularities on the tabletop and base. Its tabletop, made of wide planks, rests on two skid-shaped legs, joined by a longitudinal crossbar. The visible dowel joints on the base allow the table’s components to be separated. This simple, sturdy construction is in keeping with its purpose as a functional piece of furniture. The tabletop retains a particularly expressive patina: nicks, scratches, marks and variations in colour have accumulated over time. The irregular edges and the wear on the base contribute to the piece’s character. A mark consisting of three initials, branded onto the base – presumably those of a former owner – is visible on the crossbar of the base.
