Description
Swedish piece Rustic storage bench Painted pine Late 18th century H48.5 W146 D57 HA35.6 cm Significant wear to the paintwork, marks, cracks and irregularities in the wood A Swedish pine storage bench with a low backrest and slightly curved side panels. In the centre of the seat, a panel lifts up to reveal a storage compartment. Its simple construction thus combines two functions in a generously proportioned piece of furniture. The reddish-brown paint remains mainly on the front, the sides and the backrest. On the seat and the edges, wear and tear has largely stripped the paint away, revealing the pine. This contrast between painted surfaces and weathered wood gives the bench its character, whilst clearly showing the signs of its long use
