Pair of Gustavian-style chairs
Wood, linen and hemp
H89 W45 D43 HA45 cm
Patina and signs of wear on the wood; textiles are worn, marked and show visible signs of past repairs
A pair of wooden chairs with straight backs adorned with fine vertical slats. The straight crossbars, slightly tapered legs and understated ornamentation create a simple silhouette, characteristic of the Swedish Gustavian style.
The frames retain an aged patina and variations in colour that highlight their history. The upholstered seats are covered in linen and hemp, with traditional horsehair filling. The stitched repairs, visible on the fabric, are one of the most interesting features of the pair: they bear witness to prolonged use and give each seat a unique texture. Combined with the patina of the wood, they lend the set a particularly expressive presence.
