Description
Luciano Bertolotto Fanciulla Throne Sculptural chair with a figurative backrest Alpine pine and chestnut, assembled without nails Date of creation: 2000 H183 W49 D51cm A chair with a very slender backrest, whose silhouette rises above a low seat and two glided legs. The sculpted top evokes a stylised figure. The irregular shapes, visible joints and deeply marked surface give this piece a presence that is as much that of a sculpture as it is of a piece of furniture. The piece corresponds to the ‘Trono Fanciulla’ model featured in the catalogue *Luciano Bertolotto, Legni d’armonia*, published by the Fondazione Arciso Mastrotto in Arzignano. This page also features details of the carved section of the backrest. The photographs of this example show a pronounced patina, scuff marks and signs of wear; they do not allow for the date of manufacture or the existence of any restoration work to be established. Bibliography: Luciano Bertolotto, *Legni d’armonia*, Fondazione Mastrotto, Arzignano, featuring a reproduction of the ‘Trono Fanciulla’ model. ‘A self-taught cabinetmaker and sculptor, Luciano Bertolotto has developed a body of work in wood joinery inspired by folk furniture and figurative sculpture. With its monumental backrest and sculpted top, the Trono Fanciulla blurs the boundary between a seat and a sculpture.’
