Eliakim Shpigel, known as Eliakim, made a name for himself in the 1980s as one of the leading designers of hand-painted fabrics. He worked notably for Christian Lacroix, Pierre Cardin, Dior and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac.
Alongside this work, he created a tableware set for the Gien factory, as well as a series of four pieces for the highly renowned Murano glassmaker Seguso Vetri d’Arte. This bowl, reference EL4, is the result of this collaboration. A version of this design can be seen in Marco de Gueltzl’s home, as captured in a photograph by Roland Beaufre.
In the 1980s, Eliakim established himself as one of the leading designers of hand-painted fabrics for Christian Lacroix, Pierre Cardin, Dior and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac. At the same time, he designed a tableware range for the Gien pottery and a series of four pieces for Seguso Vetri d’Arte, one of Murano’s leading glassworks. This bowl, reference EL 4, is the result of this collaboration. The ‘scavo’ finish, which gives the glass the appearance of an unearthed antique, accentuates its archaic quality. A version of this design features in Marco de Gueltzl’s interior, photographed by Roland Beaufre.
