Tokujin Yoshioka Tokyo Pop White polyethylene daybed, orange cover Driade, Italy, 2002 H78.5 W74 D160 cm Slight tear at the back of the orange cover Large ‘Tokyo-Pop’ chaise longue / daybed with an organic shape, designed by the Japanese designer. Elegant, curved lines characterise this one-piece polyethylene piece, suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. The “Tokyo-Pop” collection marked Tokujin Yoshioka’s debut on the international scene in 2002. He is now regarded as one of the masters of contemporary design. His furniture transcends the banality of rotational moulding to become sculptures with unusual forms. Named by Newsweek as one of the “100 Most Respected Japanese People in the World”, Tokujin Yoshioka worked with Shiro Kuramata and Issey Miyake before founding his own studio in 2000. Active in the fields of design, architecture and contemporary art, he is highly regarded worldwide. Several of his works are featured in the permanent collections of museums such as MoMA, the Centre Pompidou and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
