Copper Rooster
Animal sculpture
High-temperature-fired white stoneware, transparent glaze. Hand-painted with ink-blue pigment, accented with copper lustre
H184 W250 D93 mm
This piece is created using one of the most traditional ceramic techniques: ink-blue pigment painted onto the raw clay. The sculpture is then finished with a transparent glaze applied over the entire surface.
I began painting this collection of blue and white roosters in late spring 2022. Some are dreaming, their eyes closed, whilst others are wide awake. Each has its own distinct personality. The copper rooster is dreaming of something. Five of my roosters form part of the Kakkonen Collection and have been exhibited at the Emma Museum in Finland.
The Rooster is a miniature sculpture that also serves as a bird whistle. It produces a low-pitched sound when blown into.
