Description
Victor PROUVE (1858–1943), Lorraine. A set of three charcoal or pencil drawings on paper depicting Briançon, dated 1941. 23 x 30 cm and 20 x 28.5 cm (as measured).
Provenance: the Marianne Prouvé-Georges collection.
In 1930, Marianne Prouvé, the artist’s beloved daughter, married André Georges. The couple moved to Briançon. The following year, Victor Prouvé spent several months with the couple. Captivated by the mountains, he returned to the Alps on several occasions. During the Second World War, fleeing occupied Nancy, he found refuge with his daughter.
