Description
Emile GALLE (1846–1904), Nancy, for SAINT-CLEMENT (Lorraine). A set of two openwork earthenware plates, decorated with the coat of arms of the Barons Malouet (a quartered coat of arms of the Barons who served as prefects during the Empire). Signed on the reverse. Circa 1860–1870. Diameter: 21.7 cm. Chips.
Louis Antoine Victor Malouet (1780–1842) was created a baron in 1811. He served as prefect of the Aisne, then of the Pas-de-Calais, the Seine-Maritime and finally the Bas-Rhin. These plates may have been commissioned by his eldest son: Victor Pierre, second Baron Malouet (1812–1878), a referendary councillor at the Court of Auditors, who married Suzanne Henriette Cousin in 1843.
