Description
Sacred art. A collection of 18 devotional images, most of which are polychrome, some highlighted with gold, and featuring superb machine-made lace (canivet). Published by Bouasse-Lebel, Dopter, Bès and Dubreuil, Basset, Turgis, Letaille, etc. They depict the Nativity, the ‘Bread of the Journey’ (host), the Good Shepherd, the Holy Cross, Saint Ligoru, the scapular, the Descent from the Cross, Christ, the Sacred Heart, etc. Second third of the 19th century. Very minor imperfections.
Provenance: Evelyne TAVENAUX, author of *La Piété en dentelles*, Presses universitaires de Nancy (1992), for which several of these cards were used as illustrations (notably on the cover!).
