Alexandre-Claude MELIN (1818–1876). *La Promenade*. Pen and ink drawing on paper, in its original frame of embossed paper and rosewood. Signed. Circa 1840–1850. 34.5 x 30.5 cm (frame).
Alexandre Mélin, originally from Meuse, spent his entire career in Nancy as an art teacher and architect. Among other things, he is credited, alongside Albert Cuny, with designing the building that now houses the Goethe-Institut. He was a national corresponding member of the Académie de Stanislas and, of course, a member of the Société d’archéologie lorraine and a member of the Comité du Musée Lorrain.
