Siegfried Anzinger is an Austrian painter, graphic artist and sculptor from Weyer in Upper Austria. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna under Maximilian Melcher from 1971 to 1977 and is regarded as one of the leading figures of the ‘Neue Wilde’ movement in Austria. In 1982, Anzinger moved to Cologne, where he has lived and worked ever since; he has been a professor at the Düsseldorf Art Academy since 1997. His works combine expressive painting with figurative motifs and often straddle the line between abstraction and representational art. Anzinger took part in documenta 7 in Kassel in 1982 and represented Austria at the Venice Biennale in 1988. His awards include, amongst others, the City of Vienna Prize for Painting and Graphic Art, the Oskar Kokoschka Prize and the Grand Austrian State Prize. Other artists and styles: Erwin Bohatsch, Gunter Damisch, Alois Mosbacher, Hubert Schmalix, Hubert Scheibl, Maria Lassnig, Herbert Brandl, Rudolf Goessl, Walter Vopava, Otto Zitko, Neue Wilde, Neo-Expressionism
