German painter, graphic artist and book artist of the 20th and 21st centuries. Born in Cologne in 1931, died there in 2017. Studied drawing and painting from 1946 to 1949 with Heinz Hamm in Prüm, Eifel, and later studied advertising graphics; worked as a freelance artist from 1965 and took part in exhibitions from 1969. Best known for her unique books and book objects since 1991, which combine painting, collages, handwritten texts, fabrics, feathers, metal and other materials to create sensual Gesamtkunstwerke; Illustrations for authors such as Christian Morgenstern, Ingeborg Bachmann, Franz Kafka, Thomas Mann and Grimm’s fairy tales (‘Allerleirauh’, ‘Rotkäppchen-Variationen’). Exhibitions include the Kunst- und Museumsbibliothek Köln (2016, to mark her 85th birthday); works are held in public collections.
